Bass boxing, How does it work ?
Hey everybody ! This thread is a question related to the upcomming show @ soundsgood car audio in coquitlam on june 12th.
This is my first year competing, So obviously my first bassboxing event. I have never been to a car audio competition either to see how they are played out.
There isnt any real clips on youtube showing how the bassboxing competition format works, So maybe one of you more experianced members could explain how it goes & what to expect ?
Also how are the classes divided in bass boxing ? That kind of thing.
I look forward to reading the responses & thank you all in advance who take the time to respond !

QUALIFYING ROUND - The competitor has the option of whether they wish to have the vehicle‘s doors open or closed during qualifying. The competitor has two minutes from the time they enter the competition lane to get ready to compete. The round lasts 30 seconds during which time the competitor‘s highest average SPL score will be recorded. When all qualifying is complete, only the two competitors with the highest average SPL qualifying score will move on to compete against each other in Rounds 1, 2, and 3.
ROUND 1 - In Round 1, the competitor must compete with all vehicle openings (doors, hoods, trunks, etc completely closed, however, the crowd must be able to hear full range music outside of the vehicle while it is competing. The use of external speaker pods, or opening panels that house external speaker pods, is allowed. The competitor‘s highest average SPL score after 30 seconds will be recorded. NOTE: When panels are opened to expose external speaker pods, the system, pod or vehicle cannot allow any ventilation from the interior of the vehicle to outside.
ROUND 2 - Round 2 is the same as Round 1, with one exception. In Round 2, the competitor must open one of the vehicle’s front doors (driver or passenger). The competitor‘s highest average SPL score after 30 seconds will be recorded. The door that is opened must be opened completely and remain open for the full duration of the 30 second run. Competitors are not allowed to try opening and closing the door during the competition run, in order to achieve a higher SPL score.
ROUND 3 - Round 3 is again the same as Rounds 1 and 2, with one exception. In Round 3, both front doors must be open and remain open for the duration of the SPL run. Competitors are not allowed to try opening and closing the doors during the run in an effort to increase SPL. The competitor‘s highest average SPL score after 30 seconds will be recorded.
The Champion (winner) will be determined by adding up each competitor‘s scores from Rounds 1, 2 and 3 (Qualifying Round is not included), then dividing that total by the number of Rounds to arrive at an average SPL score for all three rounds. The competitor with the highest average score for all three rounds will be declared the Champion.
1. Competitors must play full range music (full range means that the bass, midrange and high frequency levels are being played at the same volume level and evenly represented) and clearly heard outside of the vehicle.
2. At no time shall the bass frequencies of the system overpower the midrange and high frequencies so much so that the vocals and/or others parts of the music cannot be heard clearly by the judges. If this overpowering occurs there will be a 2 point deduction (per round) from the averaged score.
3. Musical selections must be approved by an IASCA Official and must be socially acceptable. Musical tracks rated with ―Parental Advisories‖, or musical tracks with lewd or suggestive lyrics are strictly prohibited.
4. The measuring device will be positioned 4 inches up from the top of the dash and 12 inches inward from the passenger side ―A‖ pillar.
GENERAL BASS BOXING RULES
Competitors must completely fill out and sign their Official Bass Boxing score sheet. Failure to do so could result in the loss of qualifying status and/or of any accrued IASCA CAP points from the event.
6. Competitors‘ ―shows‖ must also be socially acceptable. Any display that is deemed offensive in nature by the judges will not be allowed and could result in disqualification without recourse. If you are uncertain whether any part of your "show" is appropriate or not, please consult with the Bass Boxing judges for verification as to its compliance.
7. EQUIPMENT FAILURE - Should any competitor experience equipment failure while in the "Bass Boxing ring" prior to competing, they will be allowed 5 (five) minutes to repair the problem. If the problem cannot be corrected within the allotted time, it will be considered a TKO and their opponent will win by default.
8. During competition, competitors must ensure that the music they are playing can be heard clearly outside at all times during their competition runs (with the exception of the Qualifying Round).
9. Bass Boxing competitors must play full spectrum musical tracks only. Sine sweeps, test tones, bass drops, bass bombs, etc. are not allowed. However, certain music CDs with test tones, sweeps, bass drops or bass bombs embedded in the music background (e.g. The IASCA IdBL Max dB3 CD) may be allowed; check with your IASCA Official to see if the music you wish to play will be allowed.
10. Bass Boxing Finalists must be ready to compete when called upon by the Bass Boxing Officials. If a competitor fails to appear for the final rounds within five minutes of being called upon, they will be subject to disqualification without recourse, declaring their opponent the Champion by default. Competitors vying for a Bass Boxing World Record have the option to run unopposed in order to attempt to break the record for their Division.
11. Sound systems in Bass Boxing vehicles in the Middleweight and Heavyweight Divisions must be operated from outside the vehicle. Lightweight Division competitors have the option of operating the system from inside or outside the vehicle.
12. Flyweight and Featherweight competitors may elect to operate their sound systems from outside the vehicle; however, the source unit must remain mounted in the vehicle in its OEM location. In this scenario, the source unit may be operated by remote control. Competitors in these Divisions who choose to remove their source units from the factory location in competition will be reclassified to a higher Division.
13. Flyweight, Featherweight and Lightweight Division competitors operating the system from inside the vehicle must wear approved hearing protection. Failure to do so will result in disqualification without recourse.
14. In final rounds judging at ―show level‖ competitions, the use of any noise making devices (e.g. air horns, train horns, etc.) for the purpose of increasing the average SPL for that round is not allowed. In the instance where a noise making device is used, the competitor‘s score will be disallowed and they will receive one more chance to register their score. If during the second attempt a noise making device is used again, the competitor will receive a score of zero for that round, no exceptions.
15. A maximum of 2 people (competitors and co-pilots included) are allowed to be used to ―block‖ or ―cover‖ the open door opening of the vehicle during testing. Competitors are allowed up to six (6) people (co-pilots) to assist them in the set up for competition.
16. Competitors are not allowed to cover up or tape any vents or openings in the vehicle for the purpose of increasing SPL. Vehicles found to have any openings covered or taped up before, during or after testing will receive a score of zero.
Bass Boxing Divisions classify competitors by the cumulative amount of square inches of subwoofer cone area and the degree of modifications to their vehicles. This ensures that competitors are pitted against others fairly. To see which Bass Boxing Division your system fits into, consult the Cone Area Classification Chart on page IdBL-58 for the total square inches of your subwoofers and correspond it with the Bass Boxing Division Chart.
FLYWEIGHT / FEATHERWEIGHT DIVISIONS
VEHICLE CRITERIA
1. All vehicles in the Flyweight/Featherweight Division must remain OEM stock. External and internal aftermarket add-ons such as body kits, wings, wheels, aftermarket seats, steering wheels or any automotive related cosmetic and performance items not related to the vehicle‘s 12 volt electrical system are allowed.
2. All windows in the vehicle designed by the manufacturer must function as the manufacturer intended them to; nothing may impede their proper operation. OEM glass may not be replaced with any transparent substitute material.
3. Competitors are prohibited from obstructing the judge‘s view of the measuring device during testing.
4. All subwoofers and enclosures must be mounted in the OEM cargo area of the vehicle. Interpretation of the term ―cargo area‖ is at the judges discretion.
5. Vehicles equipped with OEM factory ―fold down‖ rear seats may be folded down during testing.
6. Nothing in the vehicle may interfere with the correct placement of the measuring device and its placement jig.
EQUIPMENT CRITERIA
All equipment must be commercially available and can not be modified in any way. There is no limit to the amount of amplifiers a competitor may use. Subwoofer walls are not allowed in this Division.
FUSING
IASCA recommends that all electronics be fused at the power source. If a competitor chooses not to abide by the IASCA Worldwide Inc. recommendation to fuse all electronics at the source of power, whereas serious damage or injury to products, vehicles and/or people is possible, it is advised to keep an ―A-B-C‖ rated fire extinguisher at the ready. Consult your local fire department for more information about fire extinguishers.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Maximum allowed voltage (vehicle running or off) is 15.5 volts.
Two batteries are allowed in this Division.
BATTERIES
Batteries must be standard 12 volt automotive type batteries. Variations of individual or multiple battery cells equaling 12 volts are not allowed (e.g. two 6 volt batteries connected in series). Batteries are not allowed in the passenger compartment.
LIGHTWEIGHT/SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISIONS
All of the Flyweight and Featherweight classification criteria apply to Lightweight and Super Lightweight Divisions, with the following additions:

VEHICLE CRITERIA
1. Vehicles interiors in the Middleweight/Heavyweight Divisions can be modified in any way with exceptions listed below.
2. All OEM factory windows in the vehicle may be replaced with any transparent material.
3. Competitors are prohibited from obstructing the judge‘s view of the measuring device during testing.
4. Middleweight/Heavyweight Division competitors may add a custom built dashboard in their vehicle. The dashboard height cannot extend any higher than the top of the original OEM dashboard, or 3 inches above the base of the OEM windshield frame. ―Base‖ in this reference means the part of the windshield frame that attaches to the firewall of the vehicle through the width of the vehicle at the joining point.
5. Vehicles in the Middleweight/Heavyweight Divisions can be modified to increase or decrease the length, width and/or height of the vehicle, deviating from the intent of the OEM factory body specifications.
EQUIPMENT CRITERIA
Any equipment used may be modified from OEM specifications.

Yes thanks very much don that was GREAT of you. I appreciate that alot and im sure alot of other new people will aswell.
1 more question, How will i get put into my class that i will be competing in how does that work what factors play into it ?
My setup is :
2x DC audio lvl 5 18''
1x DC audio 5k
1x DC audio 175.4
2x Mechman 220amp alts
3x kinetik 12v batteries
I dont know what else to mention that might effect what class i would be in. Oh besides that it is not a wall the enclosure is 24.5'' tall. Also i will be running @ 16.5 at every show after this, How will that effect how my points are collected for the year since it will likely change what class i am in.
Sorry for all the newbish questions. But i really do appreciate you taking the time to post that don !
