Broken remote - immobilised

Hi, brand new to this forum and car alarms in general.
I have a SPY 5000M Car Alarm (they sell many more of their motorbike version)/. The only remote transmitter button broke and the car is now armed and immobilised. The little handbook has a disarm process (foot brake + 10 OFF/ONs) which hasn't worked.
There are several options which I'm not sure are even possible, so I'm here hoping you can teach me a little.
1) is it possible to buy replacement remotes and reset the handshake code so they work together? Maybe some do and some alarms don't ??
2) If not it seems I either buy another SPY 5000m and simply replace the brain which I presume will work immed with the accompanying remotes ?
3) If I buy another system, is it a case of matching the wiring to the SPY system ?

I'm pretty sure I'll have more q's when I know what they are :-)
thanks for your help

Nigel
