Post some quick port/vent questions for kicker 12L7

Can I use kicker's port specs without using enclosure dimensions? For instance, if I do not make the box the same width/length but still obtain the same internal volume as their own box, can I still use their exact specs for the port size?

Also does the port have to be on the side of the box, or would you guys suggest putting it on the front baffle?

Any other tips before building?

Thanks

The tuning frequency is determined by the port volume, and internal enclosure volume. Ao yes to question 1.

Question 2 is often debated, but I have never heard a difference with the port on a different side than the woofer. Just as long as you have a couple of inches between the port openeing and the nearest wall you should be fine.

Don't forget to subtract the woofer and the port displacement from the internal volume.

Tuning is determined by enclosure volume, vent area, and vent length.

Shape of the enclosure or vent 'usually' will not make any difference.
