Alpine Type R Components vs. Alpine Type S Components

Hey, Im just putting together a small system in my daily driver. Its a Honda Civic Coupe. The doors take 6.5 speakers and are fairly shallow. I've been eyeing the Alpine Type R components, as well as the Type S. I know the Type R are better but would if justify the price difference? I can get the Type S for 70$ CAD and the type R for $190. Both BNIB.

How do you guys feel the performance of these sets are in comparison with eachother? Is the sound quality that much better to justify the price difference? And if your against Alpine, what would you suggest for $200 CAD. I know not alot of options but thats my budget and I don't wish to save more.

Thanks.

my thought exactly, you cant run type r with deck power, they are not very efficient, the type s will play much louder with deck power

I think your statement is rather off there. I ran my type R's off my kenwood deck and they pumped pretty good. There was the odd noise that came from them now and then when i had them going loud... ummmm ok, don't run them off deck power and expect them to sound great, LOL

That's plenty of power for either set.....are you able to listen to both sets to compare the sound for yourself? If you can, take a CD you know really well and give them a test drive.....your ears will tell you which ones you should buy......

Proper installation is a key point.....a cheap install will make either one sound like

HTH

I think i'll try that. Thanks for the great but so simple idea. By the way, does the Type S have a built on crossover? How does the wiring work with that?

From the pictures it looks like there is a cap on the tweeter leads to filter out lows.....simple wiring....2 connectors on the basket, 2 wires in your hands, I'm sure you can figure the rest......

Personally if they sound better to your ears I would spring for the extra $$, you will be listening to them for a long time.....Don't forget to audition other brands while you do the tour, you night get a surprise you like.....

Haha, yeah I will. But I even though I never listened to any of the sets extensively. The Alpines seemed better by far.

I would rather spend more time listening to speakers I'm not impressed with while they are still mounted in a display at a store....get out there and check out some other brands first.....you will appreciate the extra effort every time you fire up your car.....
