West question about bass

I just bolted my sub box with 2 12s to the car and i sure notice a difference. With the box just sitting in the trunk i would feel the bass more in my head then the rest of the body. Also it rattled the rear view mirror more. Now with it bolted i feel the bass a lot more in the seat and it seems like it got quieter. Why would this be? Also, why is it good to point the subs towards the rear of the car?

Thanks.

Because some of the energy is now being directly transferred to the vehicle from the box as opposed to thru the air.....that's why you can feel it in your butt.

Pointing the subs to the rear allows more distance for a quarter wave to develop before it hits the back of your head or the dash. In theory the same tone should get louder.....once you find the frequency that actually peaks at the distance you have to work with that's the one you want to use at a comp. Longer distance = a lower frequency.
