Installing Kicker Amp

Just a quick question regarding the high level input. Since kicker uses rca's for both low and high level inputs i need to splice into the speaker wire and solder it to an rca jack. My question is do I need both left and right rear speakers or just one? (There is a left and right on the sub). (I have a cobalt 07 ss) which comes stock with a 7 channel analog amp underneath the dash, so does that mean I have to splice directly behind the factory head unit?, or can I just splice into the wires near the rear speakers?

Thanks

Since the back speakers are right there in the trunk, I would get signal from both.
