2009 Corolla alternator whine

I have had a few audio upgrades done on my 09 XRS

Alpine IVA-W505 7" DVD screen
Alpine PMD-B200 NAV
Nakamichi PA-2004 amp
Image Dynamic CXS54 components
Viper 5900 security

Got all this installed by a shop (Visions Kamloops) just before a road trip.
Heard alternator whine the whole way on the trip.
When we got back the shop said they would trouble shoot the problem but tried to immediately blame the Nakamichi amp (which I supplied).
After swapping out for different amplifier (tried 3 amps so far) and trouble shooting for a whole day the shop tells me they think it's the Toyota alternator that is causing the problem and suggest I upgrade to an after market high output model.

The shop said if te disconnect the alternator the whine goes away... so it must be an alternator problem.
To me that doesn't make sense.

A second shop (George's Kamloops) at first said "wow we wouldn't have grounded the amp like that" "snikker snikker" but the suggested a ground loop isolator saying that really they couldn't say that the ground would be the problem for sure.

Think they are just all being lazy or what?

Get a new shop. It is VERY unlikely that an alt from an 09 Toyota is defective.
Start at the back and disconnect 1 component at a time until the noise goes away. Eventually the noise will stop, and you will know what to start looking at.
If the other shop commented on the grounding of your amp, it wouldn't take much to experiment with that a little.

I would definitely reground the amp for starters. I have no whine from my 09 CE and Alpine amp.

yep re ground, and if that doesnt work get a ground loop isolator in the RCA's it can be hard to find a good ground on new cars, if all else fails run a ground to the bat for the amp
