Changed from OEM to Aftermarket HU

I got a 2001 1500 Silverado Reg cab. and wanted to take out the stock HU to put in an alpine HU so that I could hook up a sub and use the aux in. The stock stereo actually sounds pretty good, but as soon as I changed decks the sound quality went straight downhill. It sounds horrible, all distorted and crackling and hardly any bass. Its actually kinda imbarrassing. What happened? I dont wanna hook up an amp because of the lack of space. I just want equal sound quality of the stock set up. Is this possible? Can this be fixed?

OK, well it will usually say right on the speaker grills. Who handled the install? What wiring harness was used? It makes sense that it sounds like hell if it has a factory amplified system... You need to bypass the factory amp and use the deck's amp instead. Especially with a sub being added. I went through hell with an '09 Civic Si. It had an amplified system we had to bypass without a proper harness ('09's had just come out at this point, so no aftermarket support)..... Not fun

I have no idea if this truck has a factory amp. I guess just follow the wires? The wires should go directly to the speakers if there is no amp installed?

There is no amp installed. Its the work truck model so looks like just one 6.5in speaker on the door. Now what?

No, the BOSE systems are labelled right on the speaker grills. What wiring harness did you use (or whoever installed the deck)?

I just went to canadian tire and bought this adapter thing and spliced it to the deck so everything can still go back to factory if needed.
