How to properly sound deaden?

I'm looking into sound dampening/deadening sometime soon for the first time and would really appreciate some input and opinions on the best materials/techniques/etc. The plan so far is to do the most effective areas of my SUV focusing around the 6.5" components and probably the rear hatch for better bass from dual ported 10"s off 300w 4ohm. I'm considering buying about 50sq feet (shouldn't run me more than $150 after shipping i think) of either '60mil' or '80mil' deadener from AudioTechnix and just fly at 'er. as i understand it shipping to Canada has come way down on it +15% off for the next week.. Will probably also get a pad of this or similar for behind each speaker too. thanks in advance for any help!

Concentrate on the doors. A layer on the outer skin and preferably two layers on the inner skin, covering all holes in the metal.

From there, target areas that rattle and buzz.

be sure to prep the area's properly before applying the material. I would also suggest to do the job in doors as well at this time of year.

Clean clean clean..Use de-greaser. When you put it on, roll it with a roller, don't use your hands to apply the pressure. I like to use Alum. tape to finish the edges and clean the look up..

And make sure you buy real deadening. Some companies use toxic material

I found this stuff at crappy tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
It is not as thick as what you are looking at but its 15 dollars for 3"x25feet
what I did was put some good stuff nearest the "rattle points" and used this for the other areas. not saying it is as effective but it could be a cost effective alternative

cheers
