Need electrical help with radio please

Hi gang. I'm new here because I have a problem and figured I'd ask the experts.
I have a Polaris Ranger and bought the Vertically Driven Products radio overhead amplified soundbar. It only uses MP3, no radio. Pictures below.

I spent the day installing the VDP amplified soundbar. It worked prior to me installing it, now it has power but no sound. I cut the wires so that I could feed them through the bars and leave it clean looking. I got the power hooked up right I guess because the lights and the power light works.

When I went to splice the MP3 cord together, I get nothing. I've tried 3 Ipods and phones, so that's not it. All I hear is a crunch through the speakers when it first plugs in.

I fear that the MP3 cord is like a laptop cord. Once it gets cut or nicked it won't ever work right again. Any suggestions or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

so what are all of the wires that you cut? i see the one cable for your pm3 device (aux cable) but did you have to cut speaker cables? power? I would like to see those as well. In the picture it looks ok, but those exposed wires WILL short out as soon as you are moving.

theres nothing magical about that cable...it should only be 2 wires. a good way to test it is get another aux cable without cutting it, and plug it in. see if that makes it work. if so, then thats it. if not then its something else.

please please please clean up those exposed wires. solder and heat shrink will give you a professional look (and solid connection) but you can even use crimps. do not use home style twist on connectors.

Hi. Thanks for responding. Yes, just the power cords and a cord for Mp3. The backs of these wires are inside the stereo but were not pulled. They are all attached inside the housing, nothing to plug in.

There were two cords that needed to be cut in order to feed them through the bars. The bare wires you see are just for clarity, as I would never leave them like that.

The power wires were hooked to the power as seen with blue connectors. If I had nicked the Aux cord at all somewhere would that cause it?

Also, if I had a bad ground, could the unit still power but not enough to use the MP3 cord?

Ok, I have figured it out. I didn't realize there were two channels in each half of the wires. Thanks!!

Ah glad you figured it out. I should have caught that a stereo cable has 2 channels and each channel has a + and -.
