Remote wire question

What size in line fuse should i use and is it ok to splice it 12"-15" away from the amp? I am running two amps, a four channel and a mono. I have the remote daisy chained right now. I do not want to install a relay but instead install an in line fuse for some protection.

Protection from what? If you are trying to protect the remote-on wire or the source then the fuse should be at the source end.

I often read that when more than one amp is used, two in my case, it is wise to use a relay or fuse to protect the head unit. Is it really necessary?

You don't need either for 2 amps.

all its doing is sending a signal to turn the amp on. no need for protection with just 2 amps. if you ran a huge system is 4 or more amps i would suggest a relay just because you might not get enough signal to turn all amps on otherwise.
