Troubleshooting Accessory power with no key in the Ignition.
Hey guys,
I'm in need of assistance.
Last weekend I replaced my wife's 3 year old Excelon x595 head-unit with a brand new Excelon x696. The reason for the switch was so she had Bluetooth connectivity with her phone. As opposed to getting a visor mounted Bluetooth mic/speaker unit. The x595 was dealer installed...
The problem is that her parking lights come on when her lights are turned on, even though the ignition is turned to "Lock", and the key is out. During the install I had inadvertently turned the lights on. When I had finished, and reconnected the battery's Negative, the rear lights came on. This wasn't seen at first, and we had almost drained the battery by the time we noticed the back of her car. It appears to me that the car is functioning as if they ignition is set in the "Accessory" position, even though its in "Lock" and the key is out. I'm sure the day-time running lights would come on, if the E-brake wasn't pulled. At one point, the power-windows would work even the key was out...
To break down my install procedure:
1. Removed the Negative from the battery.
2. Removed old deck from dash.
3. Once I had the wiring in front of me, I compared the existing wiring coming from the x595 to the wiring harness from the x696. They were identical except for an orange/white wire, which was labelled "dimmer" on the main harness.
4. One-at-a-time I cut the wires from the x595 harness and then connected the same from the x696 harness. In this order: Black (Ground), Yellow (Battery Constant), Red (Ignition), Blue/White (P. Cont - Remote Turn-on*), Orange/White (Dimmer - cut and electrical taped out of the way since the new deck didn't have that output wire), followed by the 8 speaker wires.
The wire connections were made with these:
The "Mute", "Steering Wheel Control", and "Ant. Control" wires coming off the x696 unit were not used, and I electrical taped them individually to insulate them from the rest of the wires.
The only "strange" thing I saw during the x595 uninstall was the blue/white (P. Control) wire coming off the deck harness was connected to both the Remote turn-on lead, and an "Antenna" wire coming from the main harness. They had cut a quarter-inch opening in the shield, wrapped the Remote turn-on wire around the now bare wire, and taped it up. Her car doesn't have a power antenna, so I wasn't sure why that wire was used at the main harness. But I left the connection as it was, except I connected the three ends, twisted, and inserted them into a connector and crimped it up.
Then it was a matter of putting it back together after routing the mic from the head-unit to an appropriate spot.
Upon power-up there were no issues. The radio worked fine (so that Antenna wire doesn't need to be wired up), her Bluetooth connection was setup. Her amp came on with no problems. We tuned up the new deck to her existing system - and thought everything was peachy.
So, once I found that there was that electrical issue, I pulled the deck back out. Double-checked all the connections, i.e Verified with the x696 Installation Instructions in the owner's manual that each wire was connected to the proper wire on the main harness (on which each wire is labelled). My first thought was that it must be the Antenna wire. So I disconnected the battery's Negative, then cut the Antenna wire on the main harness, taped it up, and made a new connection from for P. Control wire to the Remote lead to the amp.
After this was done, the only difference was that the power windows would not work with the ignition in the "Lock" position, but the parking lights still come on when the lights are turned on.
What am I missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

420guy, I just ran out to my car to test the light issue on that vehicle.
The quick answer is that my wife and I aren't too swift. Everything is working normally on her Accent.
With my car parked, the E-brake engaged, and no key in the ignition - when I turn on the lights, the day-time running and the parking lights come on. Which is exactly how her car was that day.
However, she claims that she parks the car at night (she works straight afternoon shift) and often leaves the lights in the "on" position. She's never drained her battery. Perhaps these lights shut themselves off after a period of time?
Now I have to go back and hook up that antenna wire. Stupid me. She only gets 2 and a half radio stations at the moment.
