Here's my saying/opinion and I'm not saying don't lock your doors lol
"Locks keep honest people out" If they want in your car they're gonna one way or another.
All these suggestions above were very interesting and a lot of 'em I didnt really think of.
As for Tinting, whether your making it obvious that your trying to hide something or you really just dont like people looking in your car, if you display your gear for someone to steal it without taking proper precautions to your actions your generally retarded. lol hatchback if you dont have a blind or something that most of them come with or can be added then be prepared to have some missing gear at some point unless your one of the lucky ones...
One of my friends had their car audio gear for a day. They woke up the next day to goto work saw a couple scratches on one of the doors from someone breaking into it and everything except the deck was gone. (they had the faceplate in their house) This was done at night all outfront of their house. Needless to say, to this day I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the person that installed their gear considering everything was done cleanly as if they already knew where it all was and how it was installed.

Hey how about just parking in safe places. Lots of undergrounds have cameras and security. I think that you can take all the measures you want, but if you leave your car in flemigdon park they will steal your stuff (even if it is an Atrac inside a Pony.

Really it comes down to common sense.
1. Lock your doors always.
2. Keep valuables (radar detector, CD's, sunglasses etc.) out of sight.
3. Park in well lit areas.
4. Get an alarm and always arm it.
5. Don't live in Surrey.
