It is terrible. and if there cannot be talk of shows with out a listing or someone promoting them it will die. BC has alot more shows than we do but there is alot more peeps involved there than there is in the prairies. I too have been asking and trying to get dealers all over teh province to host but no one wants to any more because it is always the same turn out , same winners and who is new gets owned. I remeber 3 yrs ago we had 4 shows a year and was good. 25 to 30 competitiors and by the end of second year there was only 6. not because of getting owned but because the loss of interest. threre was alot of money given away fro prizes and lots of extra things to be involved in other than jsut fart contests,. So I dont really know aht needs to happen any more but atleast if there is interest in a show going to happen somewheres with some notice other than a week or so because of radio comercials and etc. I think would be a great help. i know what does and what he is doing to bring back car audio and i believe it is an excellent idea, maybe you guys in the east and west take forgranted the amounts of peeps that show up but I see yuli sniffing around to get more new competitors out so it cant be all that good.

All I know is we need discussion as much as posible . and if a show has to be scheduled before even talked about then i doubt the show will ever happen.
there is a limited amount members on here form the west but i am surer there is some guests here looking to see what is going on . so some info on future events is better than no info imop. And don i know is not making money. he is just promoting the industry to help us in the west to get going on again. I know all who personally know him think the same and he is only trying to get teh ball rolling again not fight those who are in power. I realize rules are rules but maybe they need change ?

Just my 2 cents on this issue

well put bro there needs to be alot more shows in the prairies for sure!

I can't help but notice that Dukk's sig seems to be an advertisement as well.
:cheeky4:
hehehe

dumb question, but does it cost money to post a show on that calendar? or is this more of an issue of mods trying to keep the forum tidy?

that calendar isn't easy to find if you're a CCA noob, since there isn't a sub-forum dedicated to SQ/SPL competition discussions. unless I'm blind, that calendar isn't stickied in the SPL or the SQ sub-forums, which would be the most logical place to look first.

call me lazy, but it would be nice to have a sidebar or something (like the "Recent threads" sidebar) somewhere, with lists of upcoming shows linked back to that calendar. something that automatically updates when a new show is added to the calendar. even if that list was put on the calendar page, it would simplify things alot.
IMO, the way it's setup now, it's not user-friendly

my $0.02

^ If you go to Western Canada, the very top Sticky thread is about the Calendar and has a link to it. The second has instructions on how to post a show. These same links are in Eastern Canada as well. :dunno:

And now that you point it out, I do see how my sig could be potentially be seen as an advertisement, but it's not. I generally don't do freelance installs. Nobody wants my hack work anyway ;)

I welcome all the talk in the world about shows. In this case there is a bit of history that most of the population here is not aware of but generally if a show promotor comes on and says; "Hey I heard that some shop somewhere might be having a show" well, I don't go for it. Don't play games. Posting a show here is free. Put a Pre-Reg date in there and cancel it if there's no interest. See - aside from what some may have you believe, arranging a show isn't rocket surgery, it just takes a plan and a little time. The bigger the show, the more time, but a fun pickup show can be arranged in a couple of afternoons and THESE are what are needed to spark and grow interest.

Try this: Ask around to all your buddies and get a list of who would support a local show at $25 a head. Real commitment, not "yeah...maybe.." Try to get at least 10 names but ideally 20 or more. Now go into your favourite local shop and ask if they are having a show this summer. If not, ask why. Then with whatever lame excuse they give, pull out the list and show them right there that at least these many guys are gonna show up - and that's just people YOU know. If they can't move on from that, ask them why you should bother supporting a shop that doesn't support you. Kinda blunt, but it'll get your point across.

^ well I will fine tune some points a bit, there can be an incredible amount of work in show preparations and it depends on how 'deluxe' someone wants their show to be. And as a 'show promoter' whenever I post on a show in any way I am advertising... period. One of the cornerstones of having events is the concept of advertising because without competitors a show can be expensive and lame. I also looked at db dons posts and they are typically 'show chat' or 'shop' oriented, but though I have not met him he certainly appears to have a long and distinguished car audio pedigree.
