car audio shops?what's the deal with the "shop male groupie"?

seems like every store has at least one, you know the type, they don't really work there but spend all day there, act wierd and almost exclusively look the part

I guess they're great free labour and I know nobody has ever accused car audio shop owners of being masters of business but I'm just back from my second so called "high end" shop where my experience was less than ideal because of this

rant over

flame away

Grow some balls.... If the guy is annoying and not helping the business, ask him to leave. It's the shop's property. If the dude's helping installs or whatever and is being useful, who gives a fukk? Free labour like you said. If it's just that he's funny looking, get over yourself, some people are funny looking. Crack your jokes and make it entertaining :dunno:

free work... no insurance coverage no guarantee on his work or his words, sounds like a liability to me

RomanticMoments 10-05-2010 07:51 PM

Personally, and in all seriousness, unless this individual is has credentials as an installer, and is actually employed and insured, the risk of him fukking up a vehicle or himself and having a lawsuit on my hands, it is not worth having him there

ha, good topic. these types of characters are very common at shops in Toronto, although no smart shop owner would let someone like that do any work.

i think these kind of characters are kept around for enterntaiment and "make yourself feel better" type thing. There is a shop in Toronto that had a character like that who stuck around for the most of the time the shop was open, he was picked on and ridiculed on tons of occasions, was always a good laugh at his expense. He hung out at the shop for years (5-6 or so) until he finally vanished one day.

next time you are at a shop and run into someone like that just back hand them like Snoop would.

from years of observations at different shops I've concluded that there is a number of ways to become one of these groupies: 1 - former customer, 2 - never happening "future" customer, 3 - a person who thinks they are best friends with the shop owner.

what shop did you go to, you gotta tell us.

If I mentioned the shops I'd honestly feel like a bully since these guys are somewhat slow and I don't want to open them up to ridicule, plus I suspect most of these types have little else in their life so who am I to mess with that?

again, this is somewhat of a rant so take everything I say with a grain of salt plus I hold a pretty low opinion of car audio shops to begin with as most of them never seem to have evolved their business model past the 70's/80's strip mall type stereo stores

Hahahahahaha I get that every once and a while at my shop.. sometimes its good for a laugh but sometimes i wanna kick them out for spoiling my sales pitch to a customer "with" money to spend...

You hit it spot on with the types of groupies though :P hahaha i actually am still chuckling about that cause its so true.

Yeah i try to mix things up around here, the store i work out of has been around for 50 years, but we have made alot of big changes over the past few months! Its coming along.. But i agree with what yours saying, who wants to go into a shop that looks like it was opened up 30 years ago and doesnt wanna keep any shall we say "good" stuff in stock or are just set on selling everyone the same thing... not a good business/ customer relationship if you ask me.

C'mon this is the BEIF section. Just post ****ing name of the shop or at least the name of the street that they're on and we'll do the rest :smilie_da
