Another thing to mention, add a second alarm horn in the car, there is small peizo horn's which are about 1.5" x 1.5" by 3 inches.. they have been dubbed 'hearing impairers'. they are about 20 bucks a peice.

Pro: Its so loud you can hardly think.

Con: if your alarm silent autoarms itself after the ignition is off say 1 minute.. and you just stop the car to talk with some friends, you go to turn the ignition, alarm goes off and makes you scramble for the remote.

I tried to patent it in 92, but couldn't get a patent on a "steel patch" or a microphone grrrr
Every Honda since 96 now has one in their doors ...GRRRR Twice!!
So feel free to copy it...it's kinda labour intensive, and for anyone with a shop, I'll hook ya up with the right mic's, and modules. Easy 3 hours shop time, and well worth the $170, for both the customer and shop.
The kewlest thing is that after you tell a customer all about it, you hand him your keys and tell him to "Go ahead, try and unlock my door". Even tho he knows the siren's gonna sound, and he's not pumped and nervous, he'll still yank the keys out of the lock before he gets a chance to turn it. Awesome close rate, especially for you guys in Van.

Jordy, grab an external proximity sensor, I love that thing... I set so whenever someone looks into my windows the alarm triggers.
It's a motion sensor that can be set for the interior and exterior of the car and all it does is chirps to warn people before they touch the car it has an alarm. Its real cool

Onlt problem radars is that they warn the guy that just walked past your car after fighting with his wife. "Please Key Me!!!!"
Any thief will already know you are protected by the LED and window stickers.
Why pay $$$ to attract extra attention, and tell him what he will find out in one more step.
And if you approach a radared car slowly....no warning, no page.....smash & grab again.
You will however gets lots of exercise chasing after all those false warning pages!

It is an added feature to the alarm. It only chirps when someone looks into the windows, not when people are walking by. It depends on how you set it. For $50, can't go wrong

I'm a bit biased I guess. In my experience the Viper proximity sensor is the only one to use as far as keeping it's sensitivity settings stable through a wide range of temperatures, and they are a bit more than $50 by the time you get it installed...different if you're doin it yourself.
Very effective for rag-tops, or hooked up to power windows....windows go up when someone reaches in...now wouldn't that be priceless to find a punk with his neck caught in your window lol.

Another nice add on if your going to spend more coin, is a back-up battery.
If a thief cuts the power to the battery, the siren and starter kill will keep workin.Still probly have a deductible to pay tho, and lose some stuff anyway.
I'd much rather stop em before they do damage, or at least make em pick on my neighbor's car.

Biggest feature to shop for tho IMO is reliability...If the alarm works once, it pays for itself, if it fails once it was a waste of $$$, so buy a Viper.

Yep....not what I use, but they'd work ok....really any piezo type mic will stand up to the moisture in a door.
The DLD is a combination specifically designed to help the Honda owners of the early 90's that were victimized so many times that their deductibles were $1500 if they could even get theft any more.

I don't think there was one 90 Civic left in Ottawa that didn't have repaired door handles.

I had one guy got hit so often....he'd watch them from his third floor balcony, while they stole his subs, and leave him with a grand of damage in the process. Insurance company told him to move. I told him to paint a broom handle black, and mount a laser pen to it!!!. He never came back after getting the DLD's tho!

I was in Van a couple of years back, and I noticed a lot of older Honda's, and Chryslers with the same damage. There's always a market for a better mouse trap. The world might not beat a path to your door, but if you can offer a better product than the competition, it's another notch.
