any comments on Viper 5901

DOes anyone have any comments on the viper 5901 or 5902 ? I am thinking about buying this unit with the stand by pass module for my truck. Anyone have any experience with this unit ?

I installed the Viper 791VX in my truck myself and love it. I've moved it through 2 different trucks with no issue. I have had to replace the key FOB once ($$$). I just bought a Dakota pickup for my wife and it has a 130XV (I think). The box looks the same and the connectors look the same as mine so it appears there is a lot of commonality within the Viper line. Remember if yu let a shop install it, they will likely use the bitwriter to program it and have the ability to lock you out of the options menus. I would make it clear to them that they must leave it unlocked. The other issue is if you install it yourself, DEI says no warranty. I found a dealer that wrote on the invoice for me that he would warrant it himself.

The 791XV, is so much older than the 5901!

The 5901 is truly state of the art for features, reliability (when installed by someone competent) and coolness factor! I don't even sell Viper anymore and still like it.

I get that it's the updated model you are looking at, my comments were only intended to relate my positive experiences with the quality of DEI products. I added a proximity sensor, a delay latched timer and some additional relays and have had no troubles what so ever with the unit or any of the modules. I did have to diode the 4 doors trigger wires to eliminate false alarms when the GEM module goes to sleep.

The 5901 is really good and has a ton of good features. We have them on sale right now if you are looking for one.

5901 is a great unit, the 5902 is even better. I've installed about 5 or 6 of the 5901's already. The 5902 has a better remote with a scroll wheel for the menu and a full hd color screen so it's way easier to navigate through the menu options.
