Compustar for the win!!!!!!!!!!!
We also like to use a perimeter sensor or a pressure sensor to protect the vulnerability of the rag-top.

Alarms are pretty much all the same but i would go with a prox sensor if you have your top down all the time. If you are that concerned put a cam in there.

Please don't buy your alarm through eBay. An alarm is something that you want over-the-counter warranty on. You won't want to wait for the mail man to deal with your issues. You can get about the same price at your local authorized shop.
You'll also get a lifetime warranty and a better product with better range through the locals. The Canadian product (9000) has a 5000 foot range.

Buy from a local dealer that would provide warrenty as that would be the most important thing with electronics as they may break down through time and can be repaired if there was to be a problem. The product has no warrenty if not installed buy an Authorized dealer ... hope that helps

why are you guys suggesting all these different types of alarms? Why not tell him to buy a vehicle that isn't convertible first. It's easier to break into a convertible than a regular hard top.
