BMW E36 Alarm Install Help

Hello all,

This is my first post here so I will try and be as consice as possible.

Due to my previous car being stolen last year I got a E36 and ordered up a Hawk HA280 Pro alarm/immobiliser. This is a unit I have used on other cars in the past and have always found them to be stable and reliable and relatively easy to install, with good technical support from Hawk themselves.

I quickly installed the unit, although not completely, with only the main engine immobilisation and siren working. I was unable to get to the bottom of what wire went where as regards the central locking, so I put am actuator into the drivers door to operate the drivers door pin, thus operating the central locking. I did no other work on installing the unit due to moving house for about a year.

So today I basically started again with the unit, and with the help of my gas soldering iron, got everything connected and for the most part, working.

The immobilisation is working correctly, it rearms itself when its supposed to, rolls up the windows, closes the sunroof and the deadlocking is working correctly, after following the excellent write up on installing the diodes on understeer.com. I removed the actuator from the drivers door as the ZKE or body control module is now controlling the central locking, windows, sunroof etc.

However (and you knew this was coming!), everything is working exactly as it should except the drivers door. This does nothing at all when I operate the remote fob. It still works fine when using the key, and the window rolls up on this door the same as the rest. Also, using the interior door pin has the same effect as the rest, so all is ok there. It just doesn't work with the remote fob through the alarm. I have triple checked every connection, and traced every wire and cannot find an explanation for it. In case it helps, its a 1995 car.

Any ideas peeps!

Great forum you got here!

Phil
