Compustar 2W900FM-AS LIST of problems!

Hey All,

Just wanted to say first time member, long time viewer of the website as I get lots of questions answered from here (thanks google!) with most of the things I need.

My question comes mainly from a pain of a horror story with my alarm and my car.

I got my alarm installed by Chase (in Toronto) back in like, 06-07 winter and they spent 7 hrs and NEVER completed the install fully (needed me to go back) so I never ended up going back.

Maybe my fault for never returning but I was extremely busy with work, and non the less I never did.

my starter had NEVER worked from day 1 until about 2 years ago (summer of 08) I went to best buy and they happened to have fixed the starter for me and it was all fine and dandy.

I ended up taking my car off the road so I disabled my alarm, and here is where my problem lies.

My battery died, and when I finally got my car road worthy, I tried re-activating my alarm (turning the key 5 times, and pressing the button on my 2w) and it NEVER worked for the life of me. I couldn't figure it out. Now my 2W remote was in BAD condition so I ended up buying a new one but its a different version (the remote) its a 2W8000FMR but it looks IDENTICLE to my original.

so my questions are:

A) Why can't I sync my alarm and my 2way remote together, am I doing something wrong, do I have to do the tachometer thing or something? I never changed ANy of the cabling, just the battery was changed out and was without a battery connection for several months

B) will it be an issue that my 2Way remote is a different model?

my car type is below:
Mitsubishi Eclipse GS
CompuStar 2W900FM-AS (Alarm + auto starter)
Manual transmission
4 CYL (if it makes a differnece)
stock engine and no engine mods to the car
MISSING HEAD UNIT (bastard kids broke my window and stole my Pioneer AVH-P6800DVD 6 Disk indash DVD... i special ordered that bad boy...:ohwell: )

I REALLY REALLY appreciate ANY and ALL help you guys can give me becuase i really dont want to go and pay to get this fixed if its a simple one but if you guys think it needs something new like re-wiring or something then I'll just get it done. I've installed an entire system by myself amps and all, but I refuse to touch an alarm and a starter.

Thanks agian and sorry for the background story but I thought it might be useful to know.

Luis

the remote should be fine for programming, id call them though i think its 888-820-3690, ive called em a few times haha

its possible ur brain lost programming too though, u will need to reprogram the tach sensing: IF you can get one of the remotes to work, get the car running with the key, hold the brake down and then hold the start button on your working remote, lights will flash once to confirm programming

I'm 90% sure this is your problem. The 2w9000 is the American version of the 2w8000, and the major(only) difference is the frequencies these work on. So unless you change your antenna (I believe the antenna module is what modulates the frequency. Other wise its the brain) its not going to work.

I have the same 2way alarm but the 2w8000FMR (canadian) version. Mines is working flawlessly, installed by Mr2NR on this forum (well his minions did)

ahh, double post..

Just as I was saying. Google the 2 model numbers of the remotes and read the first few links.
2W900FM 900MHz American
2W800FM 433MHz Canadian
You need the other remote or antenna. I would try to get the other antenna if I were you(I'm not 100% sure that changing the antenna would work). The canadian lower frequency has a higher range(1500M Vs 900M)

I would agree that it sounds like you also need to replace the antenna in order for the new remote to work with it.

Hey,

Just an update, it looks like that you guys were right when it comes to the antenna, i actually found my old 2W900FMR remote and I got to work with my original system just my remote is in shambles (not that great condition :S).

I've now encountered another problem: My starter will not turn over, so essentially I sat in the car to see what was happening and essentially what is happening is it attempts 3 times to start, and I hear the click but nothing.

Now my keys are chiped so I have this little box with a key inside that connects to my alarm (I think) but it just doesn't turn on.

It worked before my alarm was turned off, so was there a setting that I need to redo or something? I'm not getting any flashes from the parking break in terms of errors, its just it doesn't turnon.

Any ideas? Thanks
