Diode isolation

I was planning on finding the feed to the dome light to trip the alarm if a door was opened. The instructions say to use the four wires from the door triggers and diode isolate each. I know that diodes only allow dc voltage to pass in one direction. Could someone explain exactly how to do this? Or explain why sensing the 12v+ going to the dome light is not a good idea?

Thanks

First off what year and make of vehicle is the application for?

Ok when you wire in the diodes, you want the grey band of the diode going towards your door triggers. Be sure to use the diode method, the dome light wire is not accurate enough of a trigger. So use your negative door trigger output solder 4 diodes with the grey band facing the door triggers, solder 4 wires onto your diodes and those will go to your individual door triggers. All the door triggers for that vehicle are at the GEM module located across from the brake pedal, The molex plug is white, that the door triggers are in and is the plug furthest to the left.
