Need alarm replaced, but not sure what to do...

Hi Everyone,

I have a bit of an issue with the alarm on my '95 Pathfinder.

The company which installed my alarm originally has gone out of business. They gave me no instruction manual or schematic. When alarmed, it has an ignition disable. Both of my key fobs are toast. More importantly, when they wired things, the screwed one of the "door ajar" connections, so the light is always coming off/on when driving, and when the truck is parked (when I was able to arm/disarm), the alarm would randomly go off b/c the brain thought the door was being opened! So, I think the brain is screwed too. Not only that, but my valet button doesnt work either.

Thank you very much A&B Sound! Asses.

Anyhow...

I need a new alarm installed and the old one ripped out with extreme prejudice.

If you can suggest some options, I am looking for:

1) Entry points covered: Hood, doors, tailgate
2) 1-way
3) Power locks, trunk release
4) Passive arming

Obviously, this truck is 14 yrs old, so I'm not looking for something really expensive - just a basic, *quality* 1-way system with power options. I do not need remote start, as it is a manual tranny.

Further to this, if anyone can recommend an installer in Vancouver who isn't a slimy, commission-based dung-hole like Best Buy, Visions, Ralph's, etc, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Sounds like the door sensor wire for the alarm was mis-connected, an easy repair job.
The valet may also be mis-connected.
If you know what brand name and model is installed presently, you should be able to find bot an owner's manual , and installation manual on line, or through the company that built the alarm.
Try the boys at Speaker City, new owner and staff.
North Shore Audio/Video and Performance Car Stereo in North Van. are two more choices to try, All independent owners.
As for how an Installer earns his meager wage.., that's his business.

I know the brand (Clifford), but I dont know the model. A&B sound told me when they installed the alarm, that I was not entitled to the installation guide (the owner's manual really had little to no information at all), since it showed people how the system was laid out, and therefore, how it could be by-passed.

Excellent! Thanks for the info.

Installers I have no issue with. The high-pressure sales guys on the floors are an entirely different matter, and I *really* can't stand dealing with them.
