Protecting my equipment.

Well, I now have a large amount of money into my audio system and I think it is time I should do something to protect it. I kept thinking, "it will never happen to me" because I don't live in a very threatning town. But I had a dream that it was all stolen and holy crap I woke up and just thanked God for like hours that it was just a dream. I highly doubt that they could get my box out of my car (it must way between 200-300 pounds and it is screwed down to the floor) but it is better to be safe than sorry.

So I am looking for some ideas on what kind of security system that I should get. I don't know anything about alarm brands but I am hoping I can get your guy's input. Also, I need to save money so I will be installing it all myself. Will this be hard for me? I want to go with two horns, one inside and one under the hood and I want a remote that shows if the alarm is going off. It doesn't have to be any fancy remote, just one that lets me know what is going on.

Oh, and I should have added that I have a 94 blazer so it doesn't have any kind of stock alarm hookups or anything like that. And for the horns do you guys know where I could get some battery powered ones so that if my positive wire is snipped the horns will keep going?

run an independent one inside the truck as well if you have a second battery in there.
Can you imagine what 180 dB siren inside your vehicle would sound to someone triing to steal your system?

Can you imagine what it would do to you if it accidentally went off for some reason? Imagine you're just driving down the road and all of a sudden, WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! I'd probably poop my pants and slam into a tree! Not like it usually ever happens, but suppose it did. I think I'd be paranoid driving around knowing that I could get blasted in the ears at any moment.

Holy crap, lol. I never thought of that. Jeese, that would do some ear damage.

well put one of those toggle switches on it with the cover over it... i'm sure there are a few different ways to set that up.

But how about installing? Is that very hard to do? I don't get what makes the horns go off, where is the best place to put this thing? I don't get it. Is installing a security system hard?

i think that what you need is to get a high end alarm that is 2 way....if i thief wants your stuff hes gonna get it..... hecj he'll show up with a tow truck if he wants it....but id definitley think about a 2 way with al the bells and whistles. id look to spend about 700 bucks and get it done properly. no cutting corners.

also we include a switch on each and every car we have to kill the power to the power to the fuel pump. 2 dollar switch with about 5 bucks of wire. and 5 bucks of loom. viola...extra piece of mind.
