remote start on python 902
 

Hey there back again for some more help. Last winter I had my python 902 installed, never the remote starter, now. The alarm is capable of remote start and I want to DIY I wanna learn how to do it so. First off I don't know what I need or what I gotta do, I'm told its just connecting a few wires, the car is a 99 grand am gt coupe. So where to start anyone?

Basically you need to:

a) locate and identify the required wires of the car: start line, acc, ign, etc. (the install manual for the RS shoudl tell you how to identify. A schematic of your specific vehicle would help. Also run any additional wires needed at the same time to terminate in th esame area.
b) decide where to mount the module(s) and ensure the wires you need to connect reach to that loaction.
c) make the wire connections from the RS harness to the vehicle harness (no blue scotche locks!!) To Tee onto your heavy primary wires, strip about an inch, force a pointed object through the centre of the wires splitting them into 2 groups. Feed the new wire through the middle, crimp the 2 groups back into one and twist the new wires around the stripped wire.
d) program & test the unit as per the install book.

i got an offer from my installer to do it for 100 bucks?

but then again save that 100 bucks and put it into a new alarm compustar then add on the remote starter and all the fancy dodads.. :( seems a little complicated for me.

$100 sounds very reasonable if it's a good job.(Not just a quick "hack & tape" to get it done fast). If you do it yourself, take your time. Don't set a deadline that "it must all be working by dinner". If you are unsure of something, get on the computer and get the answer. If you need a schematic for your car, pay the $20 bucks and get one. If you did your own audio install (nice list of stuff you got going there!) then you can do this. Just don't hook up a wire until you know it's the right wire. If it takes you several eveninge to figure out, so what. The car is still drivable as long as you don't leave bare wires.
