Those with 4drs and an alarm system
 

For those of you that have an alarm system on your 4dr truck, does your alarm go off if you pull the door handles on the driver or passenger back doors?

My alarm goes off if my driver and passenger front door handles are pulled, but not the driver or passenger back doors. I used to have a 95 Blazer and both front and back doors would trigger the alarm, and also the back doors would trigger the dome light. But I have a 97 Jimmy now and neither back door triggers the Viper alarm system I had installed. Does that have to do with the dome light? My back door handles when pulled do not trigger the dome light, but my front doors do. So I'm wondering if its because of that.

If the alarm is in fact triggered by the dome lights, then is there any sort of module you can add to the system that will trigger the alarm if someone tries to open the back doors?

The alarm shouldn't be wired to the dome light.
It should be wired to the door pins.
That way if the door handles are pulled, the alarm doesn't go off.

If thats really the way you want it to work, you'll need to add switches into the doors.
Personally, I wouldn't do it that way.

Have the alarm go off if the vehicle cabin is actually breached.

Its just as bad as a shock sensor that is so sensitive that it goes off with a cat jumping on the hood.

^^what he said, your shock sensor is too sensitive, adjust it so it would chirp as a "warn away" if someone pulled on the door handles if that's what you'd like. As said tho its best if the alarms goes off if your cabin is actuallly breached, that way you don't get too many false alarms.

I don't think its an issue of the shock sensor sensitivity.
Some GM cars, when the door handle is lifted the dome light turns on.
Some engineer thought it would be a good idea to light up the interior before the door is even opened.
This is a big reason I don't use the dome light as a trigger.
Use the door pin wires, even if there a multiple, just isolate them.

heh, i just re-read the post, and you're right, he needs door pin switch wired and iso.

I appreciate the help guys :) I was just wondering if there was something wrong with the alarm or if they missed something. I appreciate you taking the time and explaining in how the alarm works :) Now I know there is nothing wrong with the alarm!

My alarm does chirp if someone does pull either front passenger or driver side door handle. And if the handle is either still pulled or pulled a second time the alarm goes off.
