upgrade aftermarket alarm
 

My car came with an alarm/remote starter installed when i got it. I think it is aftermarket and looked on the brain and its an AutoStart AS-4200. This is a fairly old unit and I would like to upgrade to a 2way system.

My question is will there be any brands or models that can plug right into the wireharness of the old brain so I dont have to solder? I have no problem with soldering but on autostart website they dont have the wiring diagram just a quick start guide.

Any ideas for would help out great

Good luck with that hope, if only we dealers that see this every second day could have that happen. You are going to be doing some new wiring and soldering for sure. A good solid reliable alarm system to consider is Compustar, available in alarm or alarm starter, shorter range 2way am or long range 2way fm transmission.

Thanks for the reply...So I guess im stuck to soldering,just have to find a wiring diagram for the autostart. Is ther ea place on this forum that one could make a request for such info?, or would it be better to email autostart to get it?

did the guys who installed the autostart solder and make clean connections?..I never ever will use somone else's wiring untill I verify everything was properly soldered and has good connections.

Yes all wires look nice and clean from what i have seen. I will be taping into them and running extra wires as needed

still ALWAYS need to solder your connections. a loose conenction in conjuncion wit cheap tape that will have the adhesive seep between the copper strands can cause you alot of unwanted problems.

not to mention tape will contract and expand due to temperature which could cause connectivity problems

I wont be taping but i will be tapping into the old harness/wires. Hope this clears some things up. So no more worthless posts about tape okay. And how the **** to you tape into something?

stfu and read the tread or go start your own about electrical tape,lol
