Jalat - thats a nice box.

TragicMagic - its not really used that much, my buddy has only had it for about a couple weeks and he cant have it anymore cuz he cant afford the insurance on his car so im helpin him out.
even though it says its 3.2cubic ft, its not right? i dont have an experienced ear or much knowledge about this either but are there any other side effects of an ill proportioned box besides bad sq?

The L5 is used. Ok.

When I punch those dimensions in the Rockford Fosgate BoxWizard Calculator, it says that the internal volume is 2.86cu.ft. Minus the displacment for the subwoofer, minus the displacement of the port... That seems like an awfully small box for a 15" sub.

The minimum recommended volume for the L5 is 3cu.ft. Those dimensions just don't add up.

The Kicker website won't let me on it right now, argghhh. WTF!

if your talking about my enclosure, i made it smaller because we were throwing 800rms to each

Yes.

Of course less than optimal sound quality is the biggest issue, the 2nd is the amount of air inside the port and enclosure. When the subwoofer is pounding away, it moves quite a bit of air. If the pressure that air is forcing back onto the woofer isn't within a certain range, it can affect the woofer itself. I believe it'll be less of an issue in a ported box. However, such a large driver, in an enclosure 2/3's the recommended size, will be displacing so much air so quickly it will make that air move through that port too fast. And I think you'll end up with a lot of port noise.

Also, because the enclosure isn't designed to optimize the output of the sub, you might be inclined to try and compensate for a lack of bass by elevating settings on your amp and head-unit. This can lead to a poorer signal being sent to the woofer. So now you're making your amp work harder then necessary. There's a few residual effects that will decrease the life-expectancy of your gear.

Any chance you know what the dimensions of the port is inside this box?

I'd plan on spending about $100 on a proper enclosure. You might as well get as much out of it as you can.

No, Jalat, I was talking about the dimensions Shaker stated for his 15" sub enclosure.

TragicMagic - well, i dont want to damage this kind of woofer at this kind of deal so im just gonna take your advice and buy it without the box and find a more suited one (but where to look? never seen square empty enclosures around my area for sale), and unfortunately i dont know any further dimensions to this box anyways.

You can find the owner's manual on Kicker's website for the L5. The owner's manual goes so far as to have dimensions for their recommended box all ready for you. Just have someone build it to that specification. For some reason I can't get onto their site, otherwise I'd post a link up for you. www.kicker.com <<< Maybe that'll work for you.

Jalat might be willing to build one for you.

Jalat might be able to build you a proper one for sure. I might have a deal left on a amp to power that new system as well.
