Alpine CDA-9886 Usb problem
I just bought an Alpine cda-9886 deck, love the thing, been listening to music off of my phone and a really small usb stick (128mb) I just bought an 8gb kingston data traveller a couple weeks ago and have used it a few times. formatted it fat32 loaded some music, and the deck doesn't recognize it first then after 10 seconds it says device error. I tried formatting in ntfs aswell with no luck.

1st, it need to be formated as FAT32
how many folders/files do you have on it? Have you tried with just one file with a short name like 1.mp3 to see if it loaded? |
alright I'll put it back to fat32 again and try just a file or two with short names. when I first tried it formatted in fat32 I had 4 folders with about 15 songs in each.

So I formatted it back to fat32 loaded one song onto it and it still says no usb, then device error. other flash drives do work and this 8gb is only 2 weeks old. and works in all the computers I put it in.

In windows, does the drive installed an app automatically? Some new drives are see as 2 drives, one ROM for the crappy apps and the other one for storage. I think that those could cause some problems. But, I have the same flash drive (datatraveler 8gb) and i don't have any prob when plug into my pioneer deck and windows see it as one drive... If you know Linux, you could try to recreate the partition and reformat the flash drive using a live CD of Ubuntu (or other distro). |
The cda-9886 has usb built in. Just a cable that hangs out the the back with a female end allowing any flash drive to be plugged into it. It's not an extension. In windows it does not install any apps. hasn't done that on any pc I've plugged it into to and theres been several. The drive shows up as a single device and seems to function as it should in every pc I've used it on. I'll see if I can find a third party app to format the drive or even one from kingston themselves.

Could it be too big a drive? I have no personal experience with these yet, but I have heard of issues with thumb drives larger than 2gb. I would contact Alpine tech and see if there have been issues with trying to use large usb drives.
|
I've heard of people using 40gb harddrives in their alpines and I think I read of people using 16gb flash drives too. I'll give 'em a ring anyway see what they say.
