Amp going into Protect
Alright, I have a RF T3002 runing my 12" Kicker L7, wired @ 2ohms. amp is bridged, gain is turned to maybe 1/3 of teh way up. also have a cooling fan, a dual 80mm fan to blow air underneath amp, its kind of mounted on an angle.
today for ***** and giggles i turned up the volume to hear the sub really hit, usually run at 56 vol on the deck, turned it to 65, played for about 10-15min..then it went into protect, which is understandable kinda. turned off deck and amp, let it cool, amp was normal temp, turned back on at lik 46 on the vol (deck can go really high on volume65 isnt even near max) in about 2min amp went protect again and was crazy hot. all day kept doing the same thing, crazy got after about a min, then protect.
any ideas on what happened to it, going take it apart later tonight to see if anything came loose somehow. never used to get this crazy hot, and never had it go thermal or protect before.
also, another wierd problem that also occured when this did, is my voltage in the jeep will not hit 14v let alone 14.4v. it maxes out at lik 13.8v, dont know if it is related or not.
also, before the amp went into protect for teh first time, smelt horrible burning smell, kinda lik burnt brakes, not really burning electronics which would indicate voice coils on teh sub melting.
any ideas/input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

That amp can't handle a 2ohm load. You fried at least 1 of the transistors in it. What happened was user error.
You might have started melting the coils on the subwoofer as well due to extreme clipping. Or the smell was just the transistors burning.
As for your voltage issue. Alot of vehicles never get to 14.4V. Most alternators are preset to 14.4V but that is before any load is applied to it. Which is why 13.8 is much more the accepted standard.
