amp help
 

Right now i know nothing about car systems. I just got my first SUV which was a Expedition so im looking to pack it with some good subs. I havent really found 2 subs i like right now but im going to end up gettin something around 1200watts peak. What kind of amp do i need to power two subs with that kind of power. Or what do i need to look for to match a sub and amp? thanks

First ignore any peak power ratings. What you should concern yourself with is the RMS rating. This is a true indication of power. Second you will need to match the impedance of the subwoofer to the impedance your amp can handle. Most amps are either one or two ohm stable. This means any load with an impedance below this will mess up the amp. Check out JL Audio's site for some info on wiring subs for various loads. Choose a wiring configuration that will bring the most power out of your amplifer which will most likely be at the lowest stable impedance (ie. one or two ohms.)

so if i wanted two subs that were pretty loud what would be a good RMS wattage to look for?

Remember that adding electrical components to your vehicle is going to be a big drain on your electrical system. Guys with big amps have big electrical systems to feed them. If you're not ready to make expensive upgrades to your electrical I would suggest you stay with a sub amp in the 1500rms or less range.
You drive a SUV which are pretty easy to get loud so running a pair of the correct 12's (or 15's if you want to use up lots of cargo space) with a power rating ~500rms, in a ported enclosure, with a matching 1000rms amp to run them is going to be really loud (given you pick the correct gear).
