amp to much for sub???
Just wondering if my current setup is to much for my sub. I have a kicker 07CVR104 (less than an hour of power to it) wired to 2 ohms and was wondering if my alpine MRP-M500 is to much amp for it. Would it be better for me to try and match it to a kicker zx400.1 amp? Thanks in advance.

The amp is fine for that sub, if you feel that it's overpowering your sub on high volume, then turn the gain on the amp down a bit.

Well its already at half gain. I just had a random electrical smell when I cranked it for a minute. Obviously, once i smelt it i turned the volume down.I thought that amp was fine but figured I would get some opinions from some people that probably know way more about systems than I do. Thanks for the insight.

It doesn't matter where the gain is now, if it is too much then turn it down.
Likely it is just your woofer 'burning in'. Kicker is the only brand I know of that the first couple of times you push their woofers you can really smell the coil burning in. Once that epoxy gets hot and cools a couple of times it should not smell any more. Unfortunately it is the same smell you get when you are cooking a coil so do be careful. |
I knew there was a slight break in period, but had no idea that its supposed to smell a bit. My last system was in a trunk and looking back that's probably why I never smelled it. Now I'm in a standard cab truck. Thanks for the heads up about that "burn in" period.

I certainly have not played with every woofer brand out there but, of the ones I have, this is unique to Kicker.
