amp selection

hey everyone,

i just picked up two 15W4's and was wondering what kind of amp i should be looking at. they are in a box and are wired seperately (so two connection terminals at the back of the box). I was wondering how big i should go in terms of amp. i don't need them to be blowing my trunk off, but i want them to be working to their potential. i am also looking along the lines of a rockford fosgate with bass remote, but am open to all suggestions. also looking to see if anybody has a good price on an amp for this setup.
so far i'm guessing a 2-channel amp would be best for this (advise me otherwise and how if i'm wrong)...i'm a bit of a newb...so all help is welcome
thx

According to the manual at: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/15W4_BDS.pdf, they can take 200 watts each RMS.

Put an Ohm meter across the terminals to determine the resistance of each driver given it's current voice coil wiring method.

Now the question is: mono sub amp with the subs wired in parallel, or a 2-channel amp with each sub on a discreet channel?

Note that wiring the subs in parallel to a mono amp will 1/2 their Ohm ratings and could possibly provide a resistance that the amp can't handle. Either wire the sub voicecoils in series or switch to the 2-channel amp option.

If it was me, I'd take the subs, wire each sub's voice coils in series and attach both subs in parallel to a single JL Audio 500/1. That'll give 250 watts RMS to each sub (at the resulting 4 Ohms if they are D4s or 2 Ohms if they are D2s). Turn down the gain a bit so that you can't get crazy and exceed the maximum linear excursion of the subs.
