Amp Shuts Off
Amp Shuts Off
Hey so I have an MTX Thunder amp, nothing big but it has worked the past year I had it (hooked into a single 10" sub) but now after a few minutes of use it will shut off and an extra red light will come on. I checked the connections to it and they seem fine, then I checked the connection to sub and it was fine as well. I secured the ground to a part of the car in the trunk and I also sanded it down where I connected it to so I doubt that grounding is the problem.
Any suggestions? I'm hoping it's not an internal problem..

Take it in to http://www.s-selectronics.com/index2.html and have them test it.
That's kind of far too go for me just to see if the amp is broken. I checked the owner's manual and there isn't anything about the second LED, its kinda hidden under the outer case but it is clearly visible when it lights up.
The amp is an MTX TC3001 and the woofer is MTX TC510 4 ohm. It is pretty new, maybe a month in my new car. I took it out of my old car where it worked fine for a year but with a different deck (some "Freeway" brand deck from canadian tire). Now I'm using an alpine CDE-100 deck though that is the only thing different other than the battery being different in my new car.
The problem now is that it won't even turn on. I see power is going to it as the "On" LED is lit up, but so is that other LED that seems to mean "problem". Remote wire is good because it turns on with the deck. The only thing i can think of is that it must be internal, right?
It appears that your amp has gone into protect and will probably have to be serviced.
Try disconnecting the speaker wires from the amp and see if the led turns off.
You could also try disconnecting the battery cable for an hour or so and reconnect it to see if it comes back but I doubt it.

Yeah I tried the speaker wire disconnect first and that didn't work, then disconnected the power and that unfortunately didn't work either. I opened up and didn't see anything that I'd be able to fix.. I might have to take it to futureshop tomorrow, anyone know if they do amp repairs?
