Bass Boost on Kicker ZX500.1

So i just bought this amplifier the other day, the guy suggested that i absolutely do not use the bass boost on this amplifier. Although i played with it a bit at low volumes and i noticed an extreme boost in bass.

I have a JL 10W3 that is being powered.

So i would appreciate if i could get some other opinions on this, i don't want to blow my sub over this.

Thanks!

I have one more question aswell. How do i go from 4ohm to 2ohm with it being a mono amp?

My bass boost was turned right down as it was causing some distortion. You can turn it up, but just play with it and listen to see if you are going too far.

In regards to the resistance, this is determined by your subwoofer. If you have your sub wired at a 2 ohm load, then that is what the amp will put out. If you wire your sub to a 4 ohm load, then that's what you get. :)

Alright i will play with it a bit.
Now for the ohms, how would i wire the sub to either accept 2 or 4 ohm resistance? Is this built into the sub?
I use to research car audio alot but i havent in a few years and i've forgotten like everything.

hahaha.. Not a problem.

What configuration is your sub? Single 2ohm/4ohm? Dual 2ohm/4ohm?

I don't know what choices there are with these subs. :)

i just looked. i bought it brand new in the box so i had to go take the sub out of the box. i guess it's a single 4 ohm....so this means im stuck with 4ohms....?

Slaughter 07-28-2009 03:33 PM

That is correct. You'll be pushing about 250wrms @ 4ohms with that Amp/Sub. A dual 4ohm or 2ohm would have been a better fit, but it will definitely do the trick. :)

it works. It's loud, not loud enough for me unfortunately lol
definitely loud enough for my girlfriend, it is in my gf's car.
So i've been thinking about getting a kicker sub maybe this friday even though the JL is pretty much brand new.

Kicker for yourself or for her?

If for yourself, what are you looking at and which amp to push it?

IamJohnCe 07-28-2009 05:54 PM

I actually havent owned a vehicle in like 5-6 years lol
So these are still mine, but i have been replacing my girlfriends sound system until i decide i want a vehicle.
So the Kicker sub will be powered by the Kicker Amplifier and now that you've helped me refresh my memory, i am hoping to get a single 2ohm sub so i can get all 500w out of that amplifier.

any suggestions?
also, the car is a 1995 chrysler lebaron convertible. very limited space and i can JUST fit the JL in there with it's box. it fits in the trunk like absolutely perfectly.
