Beginner wiring question
 

Hello everyone. I am wiring my first set of speakers and have, what is probably a very idiotic question.

I bought some 14 gauge wire for the speakers (sizes are 4x6 and 5 1/4) to be driven by the stock head unit. The vehicle has never had a working stereo or speakers since I've had it so I'd be very excited if I even heard music while driving. The connectors and wire that came with the speakers is 22 gauge. Also, I believe the wiring harness for the aftermarket radio are around the same size.

My question is: Is this okay to wire together or can this potentially be dangerous, unsafe, and overall stupid? Any points in the correct direction would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You will be fine, make sure your joints are good and insulated, soldered and shrink wrap or insulated connectors.

Ok. Thank you for the response. Just so I am explaining myself correctly and just for complete clarification: Around an 8 inch long, 22 gauge negative/positive speaker wire with push-on female connectors came with the speakers. It is OK for me to connect the 14 gauge speaker wire I bought to the ends of the 22 and use the same push-on connectors to go to the speaker? I guess I'm a bit afraid of bottle-necking it at the connectors on the speaker. Thanks again

Ok here what to do, forget the 22 gauge that come witht he speakers, buy some female connectors and put them on the 14 gauge wire ends or if you are good with solder, just solder them on the speaker terminal. I use solder because it gives a good connection, where as most push on connectors rust over time and you have to remove everything again when the speakers stop playing or cutting on and off.
