Bro, there is no SUCH THING as "recoiling" a sub. If you can provide pics of said process you will be a pioneer.

scampo77 01-18-2010 10:11 PM

why not? you just pop out one voice coil and former and pop in a new one. it is done all the time.

im not putting a new coil on a old former.

here ya go because they are sitting out on my desk anyway ill show you, it is not unheard of or impossible to rebuild a speaker actually its not even that difficult or expensive.

the original VC formers are kapton its like plastic and the new ones are aluminum/fiberglass impregnated with polyester. the wire used is more dense than the original aswell. in short you are getting a speaker that handles more power gets rid of heat better and is cheaper then buying a new one. the only thing is that (and is the original reason i posted) is finding a place that will make you a coil

for anyone else out there who thinks subs cant be re coiled or that amps cant be fixed, PLEASE!!! give me a call and chances are if you are in canada ill drive to your house and buy them from you.

in a way, i guess his just building a new coil wid the same or better spex
and doing it i mean, the only hard thing in the process of building a sub is magnetism the iron so in an electronic engineer er mind i dont think it impossible!

are you actually attaching a new coil to the OLD cone and spiders? and then regluing the OLD cone and coil back to the basket?

basically you are doing this b/c there is no recone kit for the L7?

What you are doing is a home brewed reconing job, and yes, reconing is a common practice.

nonetheless, would love to see how this works out when power is sent to the speaker.

ohh and your from Montreal, i use to live their
in park extension aka decarie area!:D

if this works man, am sending sum l7's for you to fix ill pay you if price are reasonable!
you ever go to orange julep on Thursdays? Decarie and Jean talon?

Wrong word foul... your wire is more dense? How about it has more cross-sectional area or it is made of copper instead of aluminum?

I assume you mean you are using a larger wire correct... if so are there fewer or more windings (the actual number of times the wire is coiled is important to magnetic field strength... I would have to look up the formula)

scampo77 01-20-2010 07:16 AM

in this case i am glueing the old spider back in but all of these parts are availible to buy new. spider, surround, voice coil. the cone itsself is a little tricky. its why i like these speakers tho, the cone is pretty indestructable. i havent seen one get a hole in it but non the less it too is fixable. you just need to be handy with injection moulding techniques and make a patch for it.

and yes the wire used is MORE DENSE look up gaussian density on google. you can monkey with the amount of windings and it is not that big of a deal so long as you keep certain parameters in check. no i did not change the wire diameter but only because there wasent enough room

crashman please let me know if you are interested in selling me your L7s i would love to buy them please email me and i can come and pick them up. scampo77@gmail.com
