Component speakers cut out at low volume!
 

I have an Alpine sound system in my Jeep liberty.

Component type-R's in the front (2 yrs. old)
Coaxial type-R's in the rear (2 yrs. old)
CD deck with iPod control (3 yrs. old)
4 channel amp running the system (brand new)


At low volume one (or more) of the front speakers cut out. Sometimes one part (woofer or tweeter) of the component set will work while the other has cut out. This morning, I had one of two woofers working and no tweeters working. All speakers will click back on when the volume is cranked up.

Any ideas as to what is causing the problem?

sounds like you might have a signal issue, does this problem happen on all audio sorces? ex: on cd,ipod,radio?

Yes, it occurs on all sources. What piece of hardware does a signal issue relate to?

how does your audio signal get to your amp? high level(speaker wire) or low level(rca) and how many? does it happen on your rear speakers as well or just the components in the front? if its just the fronts then you can try swithing rca,s and speaker wires connected to your amp this will help you narrow down your problem

Two sets of rca cable connect the deck with the amp. I'll try switching the rca's and speaker wire to see what happens. Right now, it seems to be occurring only in the front component speakers. I'll investigate more closely, though.

I have had somewhat the same issue before, my fix was spraying a little contact and switch cleaner on my set switches on the actual amplifier

That's a good idea but the amplifier is only a week old and the problem was occuring ever before the amp was purchased. Is there anywhere else I should apply the cleaner?

no, its only good for gummy switches unfortunately... I would pull out your deck and run new rcas (through the car, not permanently) and see if that fixes your problem... all it takes is a crappy rca that hasn't quite crapped out all the way

I don't think it is the rca's because the speakers were cutting out even before the amp was installed (when the deck was powering the speakers itself). An installer has told me it is likely the speakers that need replacing. He says the amp is getting a good signal. Any chance he's wrong and it's the deck that's putting out a bad signal?

if the speakers did it before you had the amp installed that narrows it down, it cant be the amp or the signal wire running to and from the amp, either have the output checked on the stereo or check the speakers and the wire running to them
