Happy Day

I picked up a Hifonics Colossus VI (ZED Audio boards) off of a board member a week or so ago for a song. It was a little bit rough and I anticipated that it would need some work. I tore it down over the week and tested and scoped it all out, and found that she needed a couple of capacitors and a couple of resisters to get it back up and running on both channels. I picked up the components last night on my way from work. I decided that while I have the boards out of the heat sink that I will also replace the dual 8 gauge power supply leads to dual 4 gauge, so that I can feed this thing the power that it really requires to do it's thing. I am stoked about this amp and am running out now to pick up the new power wiring. I am also beefing up the power supply a little while it's apart, as these have a little more potential that "out of the box" for say.:smokin::cheeky4:

Well so far I have replaced all the bad components, beefed up the power supply, and replaced all the internal 8awg power wire with 4awg. I still have to replace the RCA block as the old one was chewed and install new speaker output leads and a new output terminal block. I'm also going to make a new pair of end caps because one was missing, plus I changed the wiring configuration a little which changed where the exit locations are on the existing end cap. After that its just a matter of putting the boards back into the heat sink and then a test run. These amps actually use a pair of 2 channel boards which are internally bridged mono and then the two are strapped together to operate as a 2 channel (dual mono).:stroke:

Boards are back in, just a couple little things left to do. Heres a couple of pics of the damage before and after the repairs.

Looking at the picture of the boards on their side, see if you count the row down just one side of this monster? That is a full size coffee table it is sitting on.

Let me know how she works for ya.

It's working well now, but I am going to need a much more serious pair of subs if I am going to run this amp.:smokin:

So modding the amp in this fashion actually helps it put out some more watts?

These amps will make considerably more power than they were rated at, provided the power supply is rock solid and you supply adequate amperage to the board to feed them.
