if this gear is in your room how are you powering it??? may be the power supply

slr_will 12-05-2008 05:44 PM

LOL maybe thats what happens when you run a 12V system @ 120V.

Can a computer powersupply do it?

MR2NR 12-09-2008 04:25 PM

Hell no, you need something that has anough current to power the amp properly. If your amp has a 30 amp fuse in it, you are going to need a power supply that can deliver that much current.

The average computer power supply has roughly 58-60amps on the 12v rail. So I guess it could be possible.

Perhaps he has a battery sitting on his floor though? I run a similar system at my hunting camp :) Car battery running a Kenwood deck. And I have a few solar panels hooked up to the battery :)

I had a power inverter which i set up to do this (120v to 12v). I was using it to test equipment. It worked for running decks and speakers. However, it did get really hot and actually melted my carpet in my room...i then realized how close i came to burning my house down and took everything apart lol. It definitely is possible tho.
