Input/output voltages
Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a bit and finally signed up because I have a question. I'm gonna be switching my amps soon (when the money comes around of course) because... Well I want something better than Rockford Punch. The amp I'm looking at is a Kicker KX700.5 (discontinued, but I'm still getting one brand new). One of the reasons I wanna switch is beause my current amps have an input sensitivity up to 4V, while my headunit is an Eclipse CD5000 with an 8V preout. What I don't understand is that the kicker has 2 input sensitivity ratings; one called low-level (does this mean RCA?) which is up to 5V, and one for High Level (does this mean speaker-level?), which is up to 10V. What I wanna know is If I get this amp will I be safe from clipping, or will I still be at risk?
thanks

hi/low level input
low level input means - the rca input of the amp while hi level is for from the head unit's speaker output to the amp. Hope that helps.

I looked at the manual and I don't think it's switchable input sensitivity, however 2 different pages of the manual contradict each other as for which rating applies to which input type... It's only logical that the RCA's should have a higher input sensitivity than the speaker-levels, but I sent kicker an e-mail to clarify.

speaker level inputs are hi, rca inputs are low.
youre h/u will prolly be ok with that amp, just try it and see
I had an issue like youres with an old school amp that didnt like 4volt outputs, on my deck i can reduce the output in my eq settings(variable muting) cant remember exactly what it was called. maybye youre deck has a feature thats similar?
