Unhappy Jensen MP6612i...Buttons stop working but remote still works

So I finally found an MP6612i head unit online with all the features i wanted (BT,RDS,SD media playback)
I installed it using the correct steps given in the owner's manual.

The unit works perfectly fine, but after driving around for awhile (approx 20 minutes), the buttons on the face do not respond anymore. Even the volume **** is non functional. The only way to get basic function back is to use the remote.
Shutting off the unit via remote doesn't solve the problem. The only way I can get it to resume back to normal operation is to turn the vehicle off, and press the "reset" button on the headunit. When i shut the vehicle off, the head unit doesn't turn off as it's suppose too. It just keeps playing the audio.
Once the unit returns to normal functionality, everything works fine. Shutting the ignition off turns the unit off as normal.

Im wondering if I have a defective unit?
Could it be overheating in the dash?

If the faceplate is removable then make sure it is making good contact with the deck. Otherwise there is likely a fault in the faceplate's processor circuit. If so there is not much you can do about it but return it or get it fixed.

Thanks Kevmurray for your reply.
I looked at the contacts and they seem to be connecting OK. Wiggling the face doesn't seem to affect anything...So im guessing the connection is ok?

Test 1:
Today I drove into town (45min) and the buttons locked up just as I was arriving at my destination. So, I pulled the deck out and the heatsinks were pretty hot! I couldn't keep my hand on them. (There are 2 HS, located on the back left corner.)
So, on my way home, i decided to pull the deck out half way just to see if more air flow will help keep things a tiny bit cooler back there. The radio worked perfectly the whole trip home!

So, is it a heating issue??

I will keep the radio sticking out half way for a couple days to see. If so, i'm thinking of connecting one of those mini pc fans to the back HS and go from there. I think i can connected it to the ignition wire in the harness so that the fan comes on only when the radio is on... I really hope this is the solution!

I'll report back.

Yep I'd say the connector is mating up fine. That's how I'd check it anyway.

This is a big clue. The heatsinks can get too hot to touch and still be ok, but it is possible that there is a faulty solder joint or component that can not take much heat. If so this would be considered a failure of the product. I'm not sure if exchanging it for a new one will cure it as your problem could be a design flaw but that's the first step I'd take. These decks are designed to go into a dashboard where there is little air circulation and a heatsink that you can put your hand on is not too hot relatively speaking. The threshold for pain is considered to be about 50 degrees C and the deck thermal protection will probably cut in above 70C. Whatever you do good luck.

the symptoms do point to a thermal issue though, I am not familiar with the deck if it has internal fans or not. Mfr could have cut a few corners in its design or the heat sink could be poorly located in your vehicle. Shouldn't be getting quite that hot to the touch either. Warranty?
