JVC KD-BT1, USB "Read Failed"
JVC KD-BT1, USB "Read Failed"
I have a JVC KD-BT1 installed in my 07 Tucson and it had no problems for the first 3 or 4 months of use. Now it rarely reads my usb drives, if it does it stops half way through a song and makes a horrible high pitched sound. I have tried all the JVC trouble shooting fixes...reformatted the drives, ensure my files weren't corrupted, make sure all files are compatible, and so on.
I have no idea what else to try....I'm pretty sure it's not a connection issue(either at the usb drive or at the head unit) as occasionally it will read for a while.
Any takers?

I am having a similar issue with my KW-NX7000 except it reads USB flash drives fine. The intermittent issue is only with my iPod 30GB 5th Gen.
The manual shows that you can connect an iPod using 3 different methods; the standard USB plug, an optional iPod adapter and an iPod AV cable. The first method allows you to play audio only and the screen GUI is similar to a generic mp3 menu. The second method also only allows for music but changes the GUI to an "iPod-like" menu. And the third method allows for playback of both audio and video.
When I first had the unit installed, I connected my iPod to the USB cable using my standard iPod cable and it worked fine for the first month or so. Then it started to "lose" the connection, cutting out mid-song with an error message flashing on the screen. The after 10-20 seconds or so, it will then flash "reading USB drive", re-connect and play fine for a random amount of time before cutting out again.
In reviewing the manual, I noticed there is a note in the iPod section warning not to turn off the car while the iPod is playing. Of course, I have done this hundreds of times prior to the abovementioned problem showing up. Perhaps it has something to do with this.
I guess, eventually I will purchase the optional cable for my iPod and try that but in the meantime I have just copied some of my library to an 8GB SD card and some to a 4GB USB stick.
