Lightweight amp

In a quest to save weight, I am looking at trimming down my 94 miata oem audio system weight.

The oem deck alone is a 1.5 din unit weighting well over 4 lbs.

I am planning to only keep the driver 2 headrest speakers and remove all the other speakers as well as the harness and antenna.

I am thinking I could just use an mp3/FM player but from what I understand I would need an amp to be able to use the headrest speakers.

I don't know much about amps, but the one that I have seen that are readily available all seems to be on the heavy side.

Is there a lightweight amp that would be ideal for my purpose?

why would you look at an audio system and say, hey there's were i could trim some weight realistically with your deck wiring and all your stock speakers your what, maybe 10 pound. Not trying to be rude but have you gutted the whole car to nothing and this is your last thing that has any weight to it? an amp alone is always going to way more then a stock deck. If anything put a single din aftermarket deck in that can run what ever amount of speakers your trying to keep in the car.

No offense taken.

I autocross my car so I only can do some weight saving within a defined set of rules. Already did most of what was allowed.

But it doesn't matter anymore I just found out that on my year radio came stock so I am not allowed to remove it (It was an option on earlier years)

oh okay well at least it makes sense now why you were getting down to the nitty gritty and trying to remove minimal amounts of weight. good luck with everything, were do you autocross?
