Low voltage with heavy bass

Hey
I have been having trouble with my system basically since I installed it. I can put it to around 19 on my deck usually with normal driving, but if i turn it up more the amp will cut out driving the subs, but the speakers will keep going. After a second the subs will pump a beat and cut out again. I am good with car audio, but not a pro. On my capacitor the voltmeter reads as low as 11.0V. I do not have a large system, only 650W rms.

A friend of mine suggested that it could be fixed by purchasing an optimum yellowtop deep cycle battery, since I have a motomaster eliminator right now and it is coming up on 3 years old, and my alternator is only a few months old.

Does anyone have any imput?

This is my set up

What are the gains / bass boost on the sub amp set at? Settings on the deck? Double check those and check your grounds as well. Check your speaker wires to make sure everything has a good connection.

Gains are at 1/3rd, bass boost is at the same.

My deck is set to have the defeat off, sub output, bass level and trebel. The grounds for the system are good. I have I haven't done the big 3 though.

had the system pumping completely topped out at it was while driving on the highway with the radio off for a few hours so the battery was nice and full and the revs were high. I just want to get my system ready so I can bring it to the DB comps this summer. I know it has potential, but I can't reach them.

What about a thermal problem? Does the amp shut off when the seat is down? For that matter what model is your amp?

dob_mike 05-21-2009 11:49 PM

It will do it at any temperature, and rarely gets overly warm. Usually if I'm going to use them for over 20 minutes of driving I will put the seat down, because it isnt muffled.

My Amp is a refference series Infinity 650W 2 Channel.

answer is simple. you have a very bad ground connection somewhere. or maybe a short.

As Yuli said check your grounds. I can't say for sure without a model number, but make sure your amp is 2 ohm stable when bridged.
