Memphis Belle 16.ST1300D Repair?

Hey guys,

I have a 5 channel Memphis amp that I need to have repaired. The Front Right RCA input isn't working. I took the left front RCA cable and placed it in the Right Front input, and the right speaker did not react. I took the right front RCA cable and placed it in the Left Front RCA input, and the speaker played that signal. Unless I'm missing something, that indicates that the input is malfunctioning, as the cable functions in a different channel.

How costly could this repair get? I've uninstalled the amp. It does not sound like anything has come loose inside. The inputs themselves still feel pretty sturdy to the touch. My guess is that its just an RCA solder gone awry? But I really have no idea.

Any reputable shops around that you'd recommend take a look at it for me?

Secondly, I just bought a new 2012 Hyundai Sonata. I'm going to be upgrading it's audio system, but downgrading the equipment I use to get that done. I was hoping I could sell the Memphis and subwoofer (12" Eclipse) and use the funds towards something less bulky.

swap your left and right speaker wires as well. Could be a bad speaker.

It's not the speaker. I uninstalled the amp, and hooked the wiring harness back up in such a way that the headunit is now running the speakers. I used Fade/Balance controls to test each speaker independently, and all four worked just fine.

However, there's still a chance that its the speaker output terminals on the amp that failed... I still should have switched the left front wires to the right side terminal to figure that out. Alas, its too late now. Is there anything I can do with the amp, to test either the RCA inputs or speaker terminals? <<< What a stupid question.

There's not really anything the average person can do without opening it up.

That's what I figured. Now to find a place that'll take a peek, and let me know what I can expect to pay to have it fixed. Any idea what a working unit could fetch these days?

Just wanted to cheerily say HI! as I'm a Hyundai owner too (2010 Elantra Touring) that also has a Belle 16.ST1300D. Mine has a funky sub input RCA (cuts in/out if you wiggle it). I've opened the thing up, looked at what's up, surmized that it's a $2 RCA PCB jack that needs to be replaced and that I feel confident doing so. You might have the same skills as me and feel confident enough to look at it.

As for their worth on the market these days, the asking price I've seen for this in good condition was around $375. I got my 'input challenged' one for $200.

I wish I had the same skills. But I'm sure if I tried anything, I'd ruin it for good.
If I can sell this one for $200, I'd probably let it go. It'd still work in a 3 channel setup. The amp is just going to be too much for what I plan on doing in the new car.

It's still a beautiful amp with a great sound, good specs, etc... but yours is more crippled than mine is. I bet a solid repair will run you less than what you'll loose if you sell it broken. Looking inside without touching anything will at least tell you if it's something major or not.

Pretty much as soon as a shop touches it the repair bill will be $80-100 + any parts. Probably worth it.

Okay, thanks guys. You know, the Sonata has a larger trunk than my Elantra, perhaps the amp won't take up as much space in the new car... And repairing the Memphis, sound like it may turn out to be cheaper than buying a new one.
Can you guys recommend a reputable shop in the Brantford/Hamilton/Kitchener area?
