Noob Help :) Amp & Speakers

I'm looking at getting 4x Rockford 6x9's and an amp to power them.

The speakers are rated 75w rms @ 4 ohms and 150w peak.

The amp I am looking at pumps out:

4 x 70W @ 4 ohms (12.5V - 0.085% THD)
4 x 120W @ 4 ohms (14.4V - <1% THD)

Would it be overpowering to run them at 4 x 120? And how is the 12.5 vs. 14.4v determined? I am new to all this so I'm just trying to learn :)

Kicker KX650.4

Speakers

Thanks!

Seems to me that amp would power them perfectly, just set the gains appropriately and you'll be good to go.

the 12.5v is with the car shut off, and the amp running strait off a normal battery, the 14.4v is with the car running and charging so there is more power because of the alternator... i think... ha!

Haha.. Sounds good to me ;)

And thanks! I just wanted a bit of confirmation before I disappointed myself :D As long as I keep the gain down I should be ok by the sounds of it ;)

Hmm... Started thinking and I'm wondering if I'm not better off going with a 5 channel amp to save space.

I'm looking at the Kicker ZX700.5 as opposed to running a Kicker KX400.1 and Kicker KX650.4.

I have 2x Audiobahn AW1205's on the KX400.1 right now and as mentioned with be running the RF speakers.

Would this maybe be a better idea?

well the 700.5 would be around 10"shorter then the 400.1 and the 650.4 running side by side. so would save some room that way... and the 700 maks about the same power as those two amps combined.

Bringing this one back from the dead. Reduce, reuse, recycle! :)

I had put this project on hold with intentions on dropping my current vehicle (2001 Caravan), however due to the $1500 I had to drop in it to keep it running and the child I have on the way, I think I will bury this one eventually.

Needless to say, my speakers have finally gone.

I still have the Kicker KX650.4 that I intend on using but I need some advice.

My doors appear to be 6x9's along with the rears. I do have a spot in the dash that could be used for speakers however, my build didn't have them. Should I look at putting speakers in the dash or just stick with the doors and rears? And should I look at putting in components in the front?

I'm looking at some Alpine Type R's 6 1/2"s for the front and Type R's 6x9's in the rear.

Current setup:

4awg power
Kicker KX400.1
2x 12" Audiobahn AW1205's

Will I need to upgrade my wires to accomodate the new amp? Or can I run them both from 4awg wires?

All suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is on a very small budget unfortunately ($150) for speakers is my goal :)

Thanks!

So the speakers I was looking at have been sold so I'm in the market for something new.

5 1/4's in the dash (Do I bother? I don't have anything there now)
6x9 In the door (Should I look at putting in 6 1/2's instead?)
6x9 in the back

Looking at something half decent as the amp runs 120 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (170 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)

Eclipse 6x9 components up front, and 6x9 coaxials (or the components) in the rear. Forget the dash, it'll just complicate the whole set up. They're rated for 80 watts rms, so with proper use of the volume control you should have no problems.

Hey Slaughter, IMO I would not bother with the dash. I would spend the bulk of the speaker budget for quality compononets for the front doors, then get some cheaper coaxs for the back. From what I can see your 2 amps need 120 amps altogether. 400.1 = 40 amps & 650.4 = 80 amps. 4ga is good up to 125 amps so it will work. However if you ever want to upgrade at all you will need 0/1ga. I would look at upping it to the 0/1 now if you can just to save some headaches later. If you already have 4ga run and can't or don't want to change it now don't worry your 4ga will work. What is the budget for all 4 speakers? Let me know and I will see what I can find for you. Have you listened to any component sets and compared the difference to coaxials yet? What type of music do you listen to? Let us know how much you want to spend and I am sure one of us can make some recomendations for you.
Nick
