Opinions regarding damaged JL Audio W3 Sub
Hi, I'm considering buying this sub but as you can see from the picture, its damaged right now.

I think its hooked up right now so I would definitely listen to it before making the purchase. That said, is it waste of money to buy a sub that has a hole in it or could you argue the hole will not significantly impact the sound quality and is therefore more of a cosmetic concern?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The cheapest I've seen a W3 is $300. If you're talking about buying one online, then I'm sure you can get one for less, but then you still have to consider shipping, taxes and duty. Where have you seen a W3 go for $150 brand new?

yes online. many good reputable sites have them for 150-180$+ ship

paying 300$ retail for a w3 would be ridiculous at that price point you can get woofers that will out perform it in every way musically dynamically and output

Either way, a brand new W3 delivered to my door is not going to cost be less than $200. Considering I'm not going to pay the full asking price and this deal involves a sub and amp, I think its fair to say it can turn out to be a bargain IF the damage to the sub is not too bad.
So going back to my original question, what are your thoughts on the damaged sub, as far as you can tell my looking at the pic?

For $300 i think it would be barely worth it if it didn't have the damage on the sub. i think you can get a newer model 12" w3 for about $100 on SonicElectronix, the amp about $400 though i believe. if that's the 470w @ 2ohm Focal amp you can likely get one from Alpine or other manufacturers the same or more power for less than half the price, with only a few less customizable settings (subsonic filter/phase switch). If you can get the set for $200-$250 from him i'd say go for it though assuming you can try before you buy.. he does say OBO.

Seems like the amp is the best part.
Gotta agree with the other posters...Its a fairly common sub with a hole. Not even worth reconing IMO.. Yes it will impact sq and look like poop doing it..Its got a hole man!!
