Port Question
1 Attachment(s)
ok so i was wondering if the width of the port matters cause as you can see on my diagram for my sub they only give you the length and the one width for the size of the port. so could i make this port 10" x 4" x 15"?? or 10" x 4" x 20"? Im making it a rectangle port if that helps
thx guys jordan |
the diagram given is for a round port(aero) it is 4" in diameter, which is the distance across a circle. that is why there is only 1 measurment.

thx |
so you wanna make a slot port enclosure. if so, a 4" aero port is the equivlent of a square port area of 12.5"
|
but like look at that pic the port is huge...a square port with the area of 12.5" would be tiny

what are you trying to design the enclosure for? |
2 12" JBL Gto 1202D Dual voice coil subs. they are 1200 watt peak and 300 watt RMS..if you need to know any technical data i have it. and these subs are being powered by a kenwood 7201 amplifier.

those woofers arent going to need the amount of port area you see in that pic you attached.

This is a generic enclosure plan for 2 12" woofers
3.5 cubes @ 35hz w/ 40.5 square inches of port PM for a list of all dimensions if your interested |
see what i would like to do is have the speakers and the port coming out of the top like the picture i posted does. i would just like to know the dimensions for the port. i've spent hours trying to figure this stuff out and i came up with 7" x 3" x 10" ..i don't think that is right and thank you guys for helping. sorry if i am being a pain in the ass.
thx |
what vehical is the enclosure going in.
sometimes subs up, port up isnt the best application |
its going in a 97 jeep tj...i love the look of the subs up port up
|
subs back port back is gonna work best in your application. trust me
|
The port area required depends on the power you are applying to the subs. Port noise becomes a factor with really high excursion. You do not want the port too small, trust me! But the larger port are you use, you need to make the port longer to keep the smae tuning frequency. If you were to just increase the port area and not the length, the tuning would go to a higher frequency, probably sounding really bad! So you need to use a box program to find out what will work for your application. You can make the port area bigger if you want, but you will also have to make it longer. Surprisingly, a small change in port area can result in a much longer port if you wish to keep a low tuning frequency. Maybe you already knew this...

build the box with the port on the same side of the subs like in jalat's picture, get the specs from him since he graciously offered (he knows about boxes from what I have seen). then you can screw around with placement up, back, forward...until you find what you like best. Jeeps are pretty square in the back so, a typical rectangular box will allow you to re-position as required.
