sealed box size
how does the size of a sealed sub box change the sound?
like will using the smallest size box recommended by the subs manufacturer be better for SPL or SQ? im trying to decide if i should go with a 1 cu ft. box for a 12"or the 1.5 cu ft. i want it loud but im more concerned about SQ |
A larger sealed enclosure will increase efficiency and low frequency performance. Smaller will present a bit of a hump before rolloff and low frequency performance will be decreased. Similarly, excursion will be increased in a larger enclosure and decreased in a smaller enclosure.

^^ What he said
And as such, the larger box will give you a smoother response being better for sq. I still think that a properly built ported box will give the best SQ. But the key is designed right and built right. When done right, ported boxes can give you a surprisingly flat response with much deeper extension before roll off. |
