Are some equalizer better than others?

Are some equalizer better than others?
I'm working on putting together a system in my truck. I don't want the system to be too fancy or complicated, but I know I want an EQ in there.
So far i've been leaning towards the compact 1/2 DIN style units, but i'm wondering if their size should be indicating that the quality might not be as good compared with large units. Of course, it all depends on what's inside, but i'm wondering if there are any "hard and fast rules" with regards to this.
Fwiw, i've been looking at the Clarion EQS746 and Kicker KQ9. Any input on either of these?
PATIA!

Well those are pretty useless really. The less useless is this one in my mind:
Phoenix Gold TEQP4 - Phoenix Gold Tantrum In-Dash Equalizer
It is the only true PEQ half din I know. Much more flexible and pretty cheep.

I haven't made a final decision on a deck yet, but the one's i'm looking at have a 3-band parametric EQ, hence my looking into something with a bit more adjustability.
Why do you feel the 4-band PEQ is better than a fixed 7-band?
Ideally i'd rather have a TiEQ30/232 or something like that, but i'm downsizing with this build. I don't want to spend the huge dollars on this build. I'm also trying to avoid purchasing in the U.S. to save on some potential hassle.

You are going to be far better off investing in a solid head unit vs. a head unit and a eq. A EQ is generally a band aid to solve a problem. You don't have the system installed yet, you don't even know if you are going to have a problem. As a eq will show that you are going to have a fully amplified system, go to a solid head unit with built in functions like the Eclipse CD7200ii. A proper cd player is going to come in around the same price, perhaps cheaper than a EQ + headunit but will offer far superior performance and waaaay less of a chance of noise in your system. As a bonus, it will offer built in Parametric EQ and time alignment.

The input is appreciated, Rob, thank you, but one problem - that particular unit you're linked is far above what i'm now willing to pay for this. As little as 4 years ago I would have bought a unit similar to that (wound up with an Alpine CDA-9835), but i'm not looking to spend quite that much money now. I'm looking for a more budget-minded system this time around - hence my linking a pair of cheap little EQs.
Oh, and you have a P.M. coming.
